Autumn Sonata (1978)

Awesome:

The original monaural soundtrack was remastered at 24-bit from the 35mm magnetic track.

Potentially worrisome:

Clicks, thumps, hiss, and hum were manually removed using Pro Tools HD. Crackle was attenuated using Audio Cube's integrated workstation.

Thankfully, despite this usual tagline indicating that Criterion have performed 'additional' restoration, any changes Ryan Hullings and company made to the restored track provided by the Swedish Film Institute are inaudible.

The 192 kbps AC-3 track on the Spanish blu-ray (25 fps, correct pitch, 1.78:1 - open matte, rounded corners) sounds about the same.

Some selective filtering at ~1 kHz (completely unnecessary) and below 50 Hz. Again, not audible, thankfully.

Massive improvement over the track on the Criterion DVD in every way.
