Among the editions represented below, the 1993 Fox LaserDisc easily sounds the best. The earlier LD, while hissier, is less detailed. The 1997 LD is the first edition to exhibit noticeable digital intervention (mastering) and doesn't sound any better for it. The DVDs sound like the 1997 LD but with more neutral equalisation.
The fidelity of the 5.1 on the blu-ray isn't objectively bad (the only actual surround information in it is some subtle generic crowd ambience added to some scenes, and it doesn't have too much noise reduction compared to the 1993 LD), but its EQ does sound pinched and hollow. The images of it below use its center channel, isolated.
