The Parallax View (1974)

Every edition below except the Criterion blu-ray sounds fantastic - this is truly one of the best-sounding '70s film audio tracks out there. The Criterion blu-ray is missing some high-frequency detail, but its real problem is bass: almost everything below 70 Hz or so has been removed.

The Parallax View (1974)

The R1 DVD and iTunes download both sound superb -- very little filtering, very detailed sound. The DVD has some light NR applied during quiet scenes (opening logo, fades, moments without music or dialogue), while the iTunes has none.

Spectrals aren't very useful here since the dynamics of the DVD have been altered slightly, usually to make scenes with music play louder. The bass during these moments has also been slightly accentuated. Still, the differences are minor.

There's an HDTV capture floating around that sounds like the DVD.
