The Curse of Frankenstein (1957)

1993 Warner LaserDisc [NJL-11066]: This sounds poor. It has much less high-frequency detail than every subsequent release, and it lacks bass detail too. Sourced from higher generation elements, I imagine.

1998 Warner LaserDisc [11066]: While thin and harsh (with distorted and sibilant dialogue) and already over-mastered (1998 is quite late for a LaserDisc!), this sounds the most detailed and immediate.

2002 R1 Warner DVD: Like the 1998 LaserDisc but with its high end attenuated slightly and its quiet moments more muffled.

2017 Amazon Download: Like the DVD.

2012 Lionsgate Blu-ray: The most muffled -- much too warm and bassy.

2020 Warner Archive Blu-ray: The more capably restored modern track, with nary a hint of distortion anywhere while being less dull sounding than the Lionsgate... but I prefer the DVD, and definitely the '98 LaserDisc, which are less muffled.

11/7/2023: Added the 1993 Warner LaserDisc.
