The Criterion blu-ray sounds the least terrible, but all the editions below sound muffled and dull.
The old Criterion LaserDisc audio track sounds horrible. I initially assumed this was due to source issues, but it's clear that everything above 5-6 kHz has been removed, so its overall toilety character could be the product of noise reduction.
The German MGM blu-ray has some additional filtering that isn't present on the Criterion.
