The audio track from Shochiku's latest restoration that's available on the newest BFI and Carlotta blu-rays sounds even more aggressively noise-reduced than the 2013 blu-rays, which already had quite enough noise reduction.
Surprisingly, the old Shochiku DVD is not identical to the Raro DVD. Although the differences are minor, the latter sounds a bit more 'open' with its extended highs. At the end of the day, any of the DVDs are preferable to the blu-rays.
Thanks for the insight. I think the new BFI-release looks the best, but am now torn if I should pick it up or not, because of the noise-reduced audio.
