The audio track on the old Criterion DVD has the most noise reduction and sounds the worst. The French Wild Side DVD and the Criterion blu-ray are a bit better.
The German Rapid Eye Movies blu-ray is unique and sounds much clearer than anything else. There's very little distortion anywhere, too - one wonders why anyone would want to make any changes to it.
