Ivanhoe (1952)

The MGM LaserDisc sounds pretty natural. There's not much detail above 8 kHz (despite the abundance of hiss sometimes up there), and some scenes sound very noise-managed, but as a whole it sounds less manipulated than the later tracks and its EQ is nice and flat.

The Warner DVD has more hiss reduction, but its main issue is EQ; its high end is emphasised far too much and its bass is cut, presumably to remove the woolly veil present in some scenes on the LD track.

The Warner Archive blu-ray is the DVD mastering EQed even more brightly. Music sequences with brass  sound harsh, and the slight distortion on the LD during these moments has been amplified severalfold.
