The Network DVD is nothing special, but the Criterion blu-ray is truly terrible. Its noise floor is usually (ironically) louder than the Network's despite its more aggressive clean-up. 00:34 in the clip below is very representative of the differences.
I've heard a couple of the many bootleg DVDs and they sound even worse than these.
