The DTS:X mix on the Universal UHD doesn't contain any new effects that I can detect, but for whatever reason the dialogue channel is very brightly EQed. This is most apparent in Costner's opening narration, which sounds razor sharp and artificial.
I haven't heard the 2.0 track (presumably the theatrical mix) on the earliest DVD, but the MCA LaserDisc (40884) sounds great.
The 5.1 track on the earlier blu-ray sounds fine too, and so does the 5.1 on the Anniversary Edition DVD.
The HDTV audio is less muffled than the LD.
