Starman (1984)

I couldn't find any major mix discrepancies between the 5.1 mix on the blu-rays and the 2.0 mix on the DVD and LaserDiscs. The 5.1 has some noise gating that makes quiet scenes rather murky, but there's no obvious high-frequency noise reduction, so loud scenes sound just fine. Some automatic click reduction (or possibly overly strong sibilance removal) has attenuated small ticks in the sound effects and dialogue, but this isn't noticeable in real-time. At 57:08 (blu-ray timecode), the line "Damn it sergeant, we've been here since six thirty this afternoon" has the word 'six' missing on the blu-ray.

The Columbia TriStar LaserDiscs sound very good and there are no significant differences between them. The DVD has its treble recessed slightly with EQ, along with some light noise gating and definite bass reduction.
