1991 MGM LaserDisc [ML101418]: Excellent sound. I really can't imagine a mono soundtrack from 1973 sounding much better than this. There's hardly any hiss or distortion, so it's bizarre that later editions go so aggressively to remove what little is here. The analogue track is the same mastering, but reportedly has a few dropouts.
1993 Japanese MGM LaserDisc [NJEL-52733]: Identical to the 1991 MGM LD.
1993 MGM LaserDisc [ML10480]: Identical to the 1991 MGM LD.
1995 MGM HiFi VHS: Very aggressively noise-gated and bass-boosted. Horrible.
1999 R1 MGM SE DVD: Significant noise reduction compared to the MGM LaserDiscs.
I think this is a phenomenal sounding mono mix and both it and TMWTGG are so dynamic and punchy I think the rumors of possible mag stereo alternate presentations are very likely. Once I heard the LD pcm there was no going back for me.
