1989 Image Entertainment LaserDisc [ID6384RC]: This would sound fantastic if not for the aggressive noise gate present throughout. Loud sounds/music and most dialogue are startlingly detailed next to the later releases, but all the spaces in between (see
1,
2), and even quieter passages of music, have been scrubbed of all detail. RCA/Columbia released the film on VHS in 1983 and then reissued it again with a HiFi track sometime in the mid/late '80s, which I'd like to hear.
2001 R1 Columbia Tri-Star DVD: Very strong noise reduction. By far the most muffled.
2012 Twilight Time Blu-ray: This lacks the clarity of the LaserDisc (detail starts disappearing above 9 kHz), but it hasn't been noise-gated.
2017 Indicator Blu-ray: Identical to the Twilight Time blu-ray.
