Every home video release of this I could find sounds poor. The blu-ray has its bass slightly cut relative to the LaserDiscs but is otherwise the same otherwise. Nothing really exists above 8 kHz on any of them.
The Columbia LaserDisc has one segment of distortion around 52 minutes in that isn't present on the Criterion LaserDisc.
At 39:34 on the Criterion blu-ray, the Tammy Wynette song on the car radio has been altered - its high frequencies have been removed (presumably to make it sound more diegetic?), so it sounds a lot more muffled. I've made a comparison clip for this, but I'll stress that the rest of the film outside this 35-second segment sounds essentially the same as the LaserDisc.
It's possible they were all taken from the same audio master but with additional bass removal beyond the laserdisc and the aforementioned song rolling off
