Irma la Douce (1963)

1985 Key Video Hi-Fi VHS: Much more detailed than every later release, with no signs of having been derived from inferior elements. This is the first version of the film I've heard that doesn't sound like it was recorded beneath the sea. Unfortunately, there are obvious signs of noise gating all throughout, so quiet moments have no real high frequency information and sound like they do in the later releases. Even the split-second gaps between words of dialogue are impacted by the gate, so the remaining hiss is rendered almost like static when it returns. But even with this problem, I don't think it ever manages to sound worse than the later masterings.

1990 Image Entertainment LaserDisc [ID7412MG]: Strong noise reduction atop what may have been the base track prepared for the VHS in the '80s.

2004 R2 MGM DVD: Some minor additional filtering relative to the Image track, but ostensibly the same.

2018: Kino Lorber Blu-ray: The same mastering as the MGM DVD.

2018 Rimini Editions Blu-ray: The same mastering as the MGM DVD.

Not pictured: the Masters of Cinema blu-ray, which is also like the MGM DVD.
